Why does my pool liner have black spots that require heavy scrubbing to remove or lighten?
Black Algae

Does the pool liner sides or bottom have black spots that require heavy scrubbing to remove or lighten?

• Black algae is the most difficult to remove because it attaches to the liner layer by layer deeply rooting itself in any seam or inconsistency in the vinyl.

• Black algae may also be a bacterial growth under the liner coming up through the vinyl.

• Scrubbing the spots will only get you so far the use of a black algicide will kill it down to the root and hopefully prevent it from re-surfacing.  These problems usually occur at the warmest part of the summer when the water temperature is at its warmest also.

• BioGuard Spot Kill is a great black algae killer. It will break up the layers of algae so they are easier to brush away. (See us in the store for a water test and instructions for use)
