Why does my pool have a white tissue paper like substance floating toward the bottom of the pool? Why are there bright pink spots on my liner?
White Water Mold & Pink Slime
Do you have white tissue paper like substance floating toward the bottom of the pool?
Do you have bright pink “algae” on the pool liner?
• White water mold and pink slime are usually mistaken for algae when they are in fact bacterial growths.
• Very common in non-chlorine pools they can occur in chlorinated water, but usually when the water temperatures are at their warmest.
• Biguanide (SoftSwim) pools should double shock with C and add an initially dose of A to kill these bacterial growths. SoftSwim C is regularly added at the rate of 1 gallon per 10,000 gallons of pool water. SoftSwim A is regularly 1 quart per 25,000 gallons initially.
• Chlorine pools actually do the same to treat but with Spot Kill instead of the regular chlorine shock. Spot Kill is a concentrated algae killer that contains slightly more chlorine then regular shock. The initial dose of Back Up algicide should also be added. The initial dose of Back Up2 is 1/2 quart per 25,000 gallons. Spot Kill for white water mold or pink slime should be 2lbs. per 10,000 gallons of pool water.
• In all instances of these bacterial growths the pool should be brushed thoroughly and the filter should be chemically cleaned to prevent any re-growth.
